Toyota beats Ford

Raced "Devil's Ridge" today.
Bronco failed. 302 cubic inches. Fuel injection. Limited slip. Headers. 2" exhaust. 104+ octane boost. 33X14.00 Swamper Boggers. Ran 3rd gear in 4 lo and downshifted to 2nd at the final hole. Didn't even place racing street and trail class in todays "Devil's Ridge" event.
But on the other hand, I got two trophies with my 4Runner. 4 cylinders. EFI. One wheel wonder. Exhaust manifolds. 31X10.50 Wildcat street tires. Ran 2nd gear in 4 lo, shifted to third, then back to second again. 1st place in the 4 and 6 class and 2nd place in stock class.
Let's see here...Bronco set up to kick butt; 4Runner set up to save gas. It brough me home two trophies where the Bronco alone would have brought me home empty handed.
I am a Ford man...but my Toy was first on race day!

Re: Toyota beats Ford

OK, had to read your post twice to figure out what you're trying to say. Dissapointing when all your hard work turns out for naught, but remember the competition in street and trail also put in a lot of effort. Your Toy ran as a stock which means you are comparing apples and oranges. Would the two trucks be comparable when run head to head? I don't think so. By the way, what type of course do you run at Devil's Ridge? Are you set up for mud, rocks, desert? It's a pretty tough job to set up for all conditions and much as I hate to admit it, a bone stock Toyota is a pretty good all around off road vehicle. The Toyota engineers have done their homework. Still wouldn't trade my Bronco for one. Keep the faith and learn from experience. Next time out I hope all they see is your tailgate. Good luck. B.O.B.

Re: Toyota beats Ford

Actually, on the comment of apples to oranges, it was a 180' mud pit and the Toy did it in 12.4 seconds where the Bronco, even though it was in a higher class did it's run on the same track, pulled a 14.0 second run.
It was a nasty hole this time. My best time was two years ago when I pulled a 6.5 second run. 2nd place that day was only a second behind me- a late 80's F-250 with 35" Swampers and a built 429.
My biggest brag for the 4Runner wasn't against my truck, though. 2nd place went to one of those old jeep full size trucks with a straight six. He had a hugo lift and 38" skinny Biggers. How my Toy beat him I don't know, but I took that trophy home proudly!!!

Next I want one of two Broncos...either a pretty XLT that sees light abuse so I can retire mine from the highway or a thrasher with a striaght six. (Maybe a baby Bronco II, but it would have to be really cheap because I don't think one would last long with the way I abuse rigs!)
