Check your ground connections at the battery and chassis.I have seen the ground cables get brittle with age and go bad.

On the early '80's Fords there is a ground wire at the solenoid, on the fenderwell. Without it, you have no power to anything. Have you replaced the solenoid? If so, it's an easy wire to miss.

I had something similar happen on my truck....

If i turned the key to the Start position, nothing would happen, but if i had somebody jump the relay while i turned the key i could start it. It turned out that the Neutral Safety Switch on the trans went bad. You can try jumping the powerlead around the switch to test to see if its still working or not

WELL I HAVE A 90'F-150 AND I'VE HAD ALMOST EVERYTHING GO WRONG BUT NOT QUITE WHAT YOU TALKING ABOUT BUT MY ADVICE IS TO CHECK ALL THE WIRES THAT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE POWER TO AND FROM YOUR BATTERY AND IF IT TURNS OVER AND WONT START THEN YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT YOUR FUEL PUMP IT MIGHT BE MIGHT BE A RELAY OR SOMETHIG. I HOPE IT HELPS.
