Dana 60 questions

What locknut socket do i need to service the bearings? I have the one for the 44 and the 50 but i was told the one for the 50 only fits the outer locknut. Any one i pickup for a 60 looks like a huge socket. No teeth like my other 2. The axle is an 87, has no hubs on it and i was planning on the throwing the stockers from the 50 on there untill i got some $$$$ cuz now i'm broke(but i got a 1 ton truck now). Then i realized i took the capscrews from my 50 hubs off to give to 91fordtough cuz he had problems with his striping out the heads. I guess i'll just have to go junkin in my spare time(HAHAHA)

Also how do i change the kingpins? I know nothing about them aside from the fact that i have them.

Re: Dana 60 questions

The Dana 50/60 for an 87 uses a 4 prong socket just like the 44 only larger and it fits both the inner and outer nuts. The one you're getting is for a 60 rear.
It has upper and lower tapered king pins with nylon bushings. They never wear out. The worst thing that happens is if you don't grease them the pins themselves get rusty and pitted. They are removed with a huge allen key socket and are supposed to be torqued to something like 600 or 800 ft/lbs (can't remember exactly).

Re: Dana 60 questions

So i have the right socket? I bought it at napa and used it on a 91 F250 D50 and it worked fine. I'm not sure of the condition of the kingpins so i'll check it out and replace whatever needs to be done. Expect more questions as more things pop up.
