Tail Gate Reconstruction

My 96' Eddie Bauer Bronco tailgate is in need of major restoration. The bottom edge has completly rusted thru, the window only works from the dash switch, there is something rattling inside, the defrost paddle wont stay attached to the window and the driver side comes unlatched as soon as I put up the window.

I need to get this fixed before I can get into lift kits. I am thinking about having a piece of diomond plate made for the bottom edge of the tailgate. Anyone ever go down this road before, how did it work? I am wondering how far up the tailgate I should take it and how I should attach it? I was thinking maybe to remove the trim panel and running the plate up to the bolt holes and reusing them for the plate. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Re: Tail Gate Reconstruction

You'll probably spend more money, time, & effort fighting that thing than just buying a replacement from JCW. I've installed one before and it's at least as good as the OE t/g.
