torque?? or lack there of
Ive been helping a friend out witht he building of his 79 f150 now for the past 2 years, he put a 6" superlift kit in it last spring and finally pulled the useless 300 inline 6 out in exchange for a professionally built 351w. His truck now sports 42" Super swamper TSL's and 5.13 gearing but still has the 4 speed from the 300 still in place. his problem is that in 4 low and in "granny gear" the engine does fine, but if he tries to grab 2nd or if he is in 4 high and tries to get any wheel speed, the motor falls flat on its face, im not sure of the cam specs or even whats done as far as compression ratio, but it does have a single plane holley intake and 750 cfm carb. I personally think its a lack of torque and too tall of gearing in transmission but i am open to suggestions. Also, he is thinking about a C-6 for a replacement trans?? will this help his cause or make matters worse? the truck is used primarily for off road use, mud, rocks, sand, hills, washouts, canyons, or whatever else Wisconsin has to offer that we can try to conquer.
thanks in advance guys, and gals if applicable
