What is the best way about buying a cam for a engine? How do you figure out your Lift/duration to suit your needs?

Re: Camshafts

Give some cam manufacturers a call. Tell them what you want to use the vehicle for and they will give you there recomendations. Summit Tech line might be able to help too. For what most of us I think the stock cam is adequate. The only way I'd go radical is if I planned on building a muddin' monster. Other than that on a rebuild I'd probably just go with one a little more aggresive than stock. Edelbrock claims to have cams to match there intakes. I'll probably go that route when the time comes. <font color="blue">Norm</font color>'s right.
Every cam company I've dealt with has always been more than happy to help you out with the proper cam choice.
Make sure you've narrowed down your expectations first though.
