Speedo Stopped

Hey guys, happy holidays. My 90 Bronco's (351W/E4OD/BW1356) speedo has stopped completely. Needle doesn't move and miles don't add on anymore. For a while before it stopped the speedo needle really bounced around on accel/deccel...and you could hear a noise behind the dash as the needle jumped. Could that have been the cable sticking/binding? I thought of lubing it, but didn't know how. The above situation kept getting worse little by little until it just stopped working altogether. I haven't had a chance to see whats wrong yet, but I'm thinking either broken speedo cable or the gear in the transfer case. After it quita few days ago, it twice worked again for about a mile or two (with the dash noise) and after that it hasn't worked since. Is it hard to change a cable if thats the prob? My Haynes manual doesn't say anything about it. Any ideas or suggestions would be great. Thanks for any help!

Re: Speedo Stopped

That's exactly what mine did - lack of lube had caused the cable to wear into its sheath and the slop&bind caused too much stress on the gears, which wore out. Rather than spend gobs of money on the same old parts , I went to the electronic PSOM from '92-97 trucks.
