Check Engine Light

My check light flashes quickly while driving, but only when the motor is cold and only when the go pedal is pushed. As soon as I let up and coast it stops flashing. It doesn't do this at all when the engine is warm. Any thoughts? This is a 91 f250 4x4 with 351 and auto trans.

Re: Check Engine Light

I have the exact same truck. Mine does it as well. There are no problems with the motor, it's always done that. I know numerous people that this happens to but it is no cause for alarm, just another common ford problem.

Re: Check Engine Light

My buddy has a 90 250 w/ a 351 and his does the same thing. His does it all the time. All he does is get off the gas and it goes away. He has never done any maintainence aside from oil changes, tune up, fuel filter and brakes. Everything else is "gas and go". His has no power but he also has around 150K on the clock.

Re: Check Engine Light

Have any of you pulled the codes to see WHY the light is flashing?

Re: Check Engine Light

Nope I keep offering to for the guy but his logic is it runs and i'm getting a new one soon(as he gets off his A$$).

Would it store a code even if the light doesn't stay on constantly?

Re: Check Engine Light

If you pull the codes please post them for us. I've never tried to considering the light ONLY comes on when you get on the gas. But other then that never happens.

Re: Check Engine Light

Welcome to the world of Check Engine Light. Mines been going strong for about 3 months. Takes about 5 mins for it to warm up and come on (just like my anti-lock brake light). I might try to diagnose it this winter vacation, but I really don't have any problems, except a weak altenator.
