Anybody ever seen one of these crossmembers?

Re: Frame Crossmember
Thats an accordian type frame? Didnt see a crossmember on my 95 when I played with the front last year.

Re: Frame Crossmember
yep, saw one today on a 88f150 2wd that I put radius arm bushings on. its at the very end of the frame right behind the front bumper. it still has the big TTB crossmember in there also if that was what you where wondering.
edit- i also wouldn't even really consider it a real crossmember, its pretty puny looking.

Re: Frame Crossmember
my uncle's 96 2wd has that also, which doesnt make sense since it's a 2wd and my 4x4 doesnt have one. however, i have a feeling FORD decided that the frame needed reinforcement after all the TTB rivet TSBs, so the later models got that extra support. he also has some rubber flap on top of it that i dont have... i need to rig something like that up to keep my engine visible after i play in the mud

Re: Frame Crossmember
it almost looks like it's bolted where my swaybar is, maybe it's used only on non-swaybar trucks?

Re: Frame Crossmember
It cradles the sway bar - there was an earlier style that held the sway bar beneath the frame rails for '87-91.

Re: Frame Crossmember
My 89 4x4 didn't have one. It had no sway bars.
When i bought my 2wd 86 it had one. That truck also has no sway bars. It is VERY flimsy as it was bent and all i had to do was stand on it to straiten it out a little. My friends 89 2wd has one also. He doensn't have swaybars either.

Re: Frame Crossmember
If it was for 87-91 then why is it in my 93 manual? The accordian frame didn't come along until 92?

What I think is the weird part is the it is only on 4X2 and is so flimsy.......

Re: Frame Crossmember
I said there was an earlier style - not that the '92-97 didn't exist, only that there's another one that's similar. The '80-86 one was only used when there was no front sway bar, but the '87-91 one held the sway bar. Looks like the '92-97 one does also, but apparently it's rare. I've never seen that one IRL.

Re: Frame Crossmember
Well if you dont have one and your going wheeling , you may wanna weld one in. My 89 doesnt have one and i get alot of flex in the front end cause of my larger tires. Welding a thick cross member and doing some preventitive welding to insure no breaks.

Re: Frame Crossmember
Yeah I'm with Steve, I'm pretty sure I have one on my 90 BRONCO (the earlier style). It connects the sway bars to the frame if I'm correct???
