Sittin\' Bronco

Had to go to Australia for 5 months so that meant the Bronco had to be put in park for the duration. I'm assuming it will start right up when I get back in the near future. Anything to worry about? It been parked in an underground concrete parking lot.

Cant wait to get in 'er again.

Interestingly Ive seen a few older but in good shape Broncos around here. I guess they did import them for 3 years or so.

Re: Sittin\' Bronco

Hopefully the gas dont smell like varnish, if so it could do expen$ive damage to the motor. If the fuel is too old, it will gum up in the intake ports and on the intake valve stems when the motor warms it up causing the valves to stick open and possibly have the pistons smack em. Dont know if 5 months is quite long enough, but if it smells like that, dont start it. When i worked in auto-machine shops it was common to get cylinder heads in for this exact reason.

When my 89 burned up (before i owned it) it sat for 8 months without starting in the shop where the guy brought it. I'm not sure if they droped the tanks or anything but it ran fine when i bought it.

Re: Sittin\' Bronco

I think this is suppose to be done prior to leaving it but doesn't a squirt of WD40 down the plug holes or a bit of Marvels Mystery Oil help a motor that's been sitting? I don't think it could hurt. Maybe some Marvels in the tank for the valves too. Dunno. If I'm wrong I'm sure I'll get flamed so stand by and see. NORM

By the way here's my favorite Australian Bronco site Gremlin's site
