Diff Between a TTB D44 & TTB D50 ??

Is there any visual difference between the two ? What is the exact difference between the 44 & 50 ? Thanks !

Jeff

8 lugs, leaf springs, and a "50" cast into the bottom of the D50 chunk. Other than that, they're virtually indistinguishable!

supposedly there were some leaf-sprung 8 lug d44 TTB's, which means the casting number is all you have to use to distinguish them at first glance

Ya ok , I just came in from being underneath the truck and I dont see any 44 or 50 stamp on the chunk . Just the tag on the front that says some numbers ( cant read the top row) but the rest says EOTA - JE . I do have 8 lugs though

PS. Muddy , glad to hear your rig is Mold free

44- ujoints use standard 44 c-clips, ie on the "backside of the yoke"

50 - ujoints use external clips just like a d/s

Seems to me the simplest way would be this: Is it leaf sprung, or coil sprung? If its coil, its definitely a D44.

Didnt the D50's have different pivot points, too?

Yeah, the D50 beams are a bit larger and slightly different in shape.

No, because some light duty F250s received an 8 lug version of the D44 TTB (called the D44HD TTB) which was leaf sprung.

Wow, really? Jeez, what was ford thinking?

Ford Thinking?

Nah. They left it up to us to do the thinking. I think we, the re-engineers, should get a raise.
