Automatic hubs

Hey everybody, im about to get my license and i just got a 89 bronco XLT. When i put it into 4-wheel drive i feel the transfer case kick in, but i don't think the front hubs are locking. They are automatic hubs. I would ask my dad but he's a Chevy man. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Re: Automatic hubs

Hey Payne2006, welcome to The Board. You found it! Do read that top post though, It's in there! Your auto's probably are shot - literally. Mine came apart and the little hard bearings can do some damage flying around in there. Have a friend watch in some good mud or sand for the wheels and drive shaft rotation. Manuals are near or under $80.00

Re: Automatic hubs

Engage the t-case and then try gently to turn on pavement. If you feel it binding up and "hopping" then your 4x4 works if you can turn with no binding and as smooth as in 2wd then your hubs are probably shot. But like he said be sure your front shaft is rotating so you know the t-case has engaged.
