Oil Company Gas Profit

Well, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but remember some of the postings about gas boycotts? I just read an article from my local paper in N. CA. They have a picture of the CEO for Chevron. He's sitting on a window ledge overlooking the bay with a big smile on his face. The article talks about how successful he has been improving company profits. Chevron just had a record breaking first quarter profit of $1.1 billion for its 121 year history. They consider this quadruple profit for the first three months of the year. Gee I wonder how he did it!!! I guess we're too stupid to figure that out, unless a $1.90 a gallon doesn't effect your budget. Sorry for sounding frustrated but I knew this was coming and there is absolutely nothing I can do about it. I can only picture these characters flying their Corporate Jets and smiling all the way to a happy retirement...

Re: Oil Company Gas Profit

I'm not against a company making profits, even huge profits. It's the obscene grab-all affecting the average person that stinks. I'm also not against a corporate CEO making a giant salary. However unattainable it may be, it still gives a guy a target to shoot for (the American Dream). The better the business environment, the better it is for a person to get a better paying job, just so long as your raise in wages more than makes up for the rise in the cost of living. It's an odd point to try to make...

Re: Oil Company Gas Profit

Ron, I agree with you 100%, but what happens is that the profits are not shared with the workers. Look at all the cutback suffered by many long term employees (in the oil industry) due to down-sizing and replacement with third-party contractors. The middle class is our country's asset. Without it, we'll have the "have-nots" and a very small portion of the population owning everything. I'm beginning to sound like a preacher... I'll stop...
