Since I will be rebuilding the 429.... whats a good CAM? I am thinking of just going all Edlebrock...
Cam, Lifters,Valve springs, Timing chain, Performer Intake , 750 Cfm Carb (or is the 600 ok?). It will
have L&L's Ultra-Flow headers and 2 1/2 exhaust flowing through flowmasters..
It depends on what you want out of the engine. If it's torque, stick with what you have now. Your engine was called a Thunder Jet in that year T-Bird. I believe it was basically a Cobra Jet engine, so they're set up for torque already. The weak point in any factory 429 is the heads. Your best bet may be porting them, and see what happens. Your 600CFM carb should be good enough. Don't go bigger than a 700 - 750, you'll overcarb the engine, and it will run like crap. Spend your money on hardened seats so that you can run on unleaded fuel, otherwise you will eventually burn the seats if you don't use some lead additive. If you do use lead additive instead of getting hardened seats, you better scrap the cats. They'll clog up fairly quick.
