351W OUT -----> 429 IN!!!!

Well.... my 351W-2bbl in my 84 XLT started Rapping today.. and no it was music to my ears...

So I will be dusting off the 429 in my dads basement (it came from a '68 T-bird) and gonna have it rebuilt....

Anyone done this SWAP? I hears its realitively painless with the use of L&L Products...

I know this won't be cheap.. but thats ok...

Re: 351W OUT -----> 429 IN!!!!

Well.. I need to find out exactly wrong with my 351W.. I think it just may be a blown head gasket.. but either way I will be starting to gather the pieces and parts to do the conversion.. I do need a Big-block C-6 Tranny.. so I will just be buying TCI's Truck master C-6.. its only $920 complete.. and by the time I get a junk-yard C-6 big block and have it rebuilt.. it will be about the same.. and that is without any mods.. so TCI is my choice...

Re: 351W Cracked block. time for the 429 IN!!!!

If the 429 needs some work done to it, why don't you let it grow up? The only difference between a 429 and a 460 is the crankshaft and the pistons. If the old crank and cylinders are worn, might just as well turn it into a 460.

Did it go together nice and easy? You did something wrong.Will have to do it again.

well.. crank does need to be turned... thats like $100.. whats a new crank cost? I obviously need new pistons... 11.26 to 1 won't cut it on pump gas...
Also wouldn't I need another harmonic balancer?
