\'92 Gas Guage Sender?

Fuel gauge is dead. I've checked the connection and all fuses. Is there anything else I can check before I drop that huge tank? Any other troubleshooting tips? ('92, 5.0, 5spd)

Thanks for your time!

Re: \'92 Gas Guage Sender?

hey, find the wiring and send full 12 volts to the gauge. If the gauge jumps around then chances are your wiring and gauge is good and the trouble is in the tank. most likely the sending unit in the tank. Ford is known for it. My 92 has the same problem have not looked at it yet. Goodluck

Re: \'92 Gas Guage Sender?

If you have a DVM, you could check resistance of the sender in the tank by unplugging one of the connectors. If you can get onto this at the gauge, then you can check the sender and all the wiring back to tank. If it reads open, then try finding a connector closer to the tank and doing it again in case the open is in the cable. If its still open, then its a safe bet its the sender. For the heck of it, might try having somebody bounce the vehicle to see if the sender continuity comes and goes as gas sloshes.
