Compression test on a 79 Bronco & towing capacity

I am new to this forum and have the following questions:

What should the compression be in the cylinders on a 1979 Ford Bronco V8? I don't know yet if it is a 351 or 400. I may be acquiring this vehicle from my parents. The body is in pretty good shape and I thought I would use it to tow my race car & trailer. Also, what is the towing capacity on such a truck? My trailer and car weighs about 5000 lbs.

Thanks for the help in advance!

You'll be near the max capacity IMO with a 5,000 lb trailer. By max, I mean a safe, comfortable max - not stretching it to it's very limits. Weight distribution will be critical for best handling. Too much tongue weight is better than too little, but find that "sweet spot" where it rides "just so" & you'll want to park the car exactly like that from then on. If your trailer doesn't have brakes, install them. You'll be glad you did.
