harmonic balancer

can you interchange the 302 and the 351w balancers?
if one goes bad can it make the motor sound like it is knocking? please help

I've been searching for a rather slight knocking at idle on my 351W so I'm curious also...

I've been thinking it's that the timing chain is wore out. It could be something like the oil pump but it sounds like piston knock.

I haven't ever heard of the balancer having this effect but now I'm wondering...

They may interchange, just check the crank O.D.. I would think a bad balancer would cause vibration, and not a knocking sound. What year , and how many miles on your rig?
