Swapping 302 for 351

I have a 1991 Ford Bronco with a 302 5.0 EFI engine and E4OD tranny. My question is has anyone swapped in a 351 5.8 EFI into a similar vehicle, and what had to be done?

My main concern is will the 351 bolt up to the tranny without modifications or adapters?

I do realize that the ECC and wiring harness will probable have to be changed, but what else?

Any other ideas are welcomed.

from what little i know, a 302 will exchange with a 351 windsor since the 302 is a windsor. a 351M will require a change in the bell housing if not the entire tranny. then you have the motor mounts to deal with.

can i get an witness??

Yes the 302 and 351w have the same transmision and engine mount bolt patterns and the pistons are the same size. That is pretty much where the similarities end. The block is taller and the intake is wider. You might even have to put a hole in your hood depending on the set up you run and how much clearance you have. Better check. I think it is only ~2" taller and ~3.5" wider at the intake.

What about the computer? Do you need a new one?

Re: Swapping 302 for 351

It should be a bolt in... The Bronco came with a 351W as an option so everythihng should fit... I'm pretty sure the tranny should bolt up. (only problem may be the output shaft diameter) You'll need the computer out of a bronco or truck. You should be able to get any odds and ends off the donor vehicle (hopefully a 351 Bronco or truck) or at the Ford dealer. I'm thinking of doing this when my 302 kicks the bucket, so keep us posted!
