Noisy Xfr case?

My 87 full size Bronco...makes
a gear whirring and sometimes "chunk" noise when I wind downn to a stop.
It has done this in reverse as well. If I lock and unlock the hubs a few times
and then shift the xfr case in and out of 2h it seems to sometimes make it better, but it seems to be worsening.
Are my manual locking hubs wearing out? Can they be repaired
or do they need to be replaced...or does it sound more like
another problem...any advice would be appreciated...

Re: Noisy Xfr case?

Is it doing this in 4L or 4H? Mine's always made noises like that in 4L.

it does it just in 2h...when I shift out of 4h and try to drive around
without the 4x4 engaged...
