rear window

I have replaced my 1979 bronco's tailgate. The latch assembly has 4 points: one to the handle, two (one to each side) to the latches and one that keeps you from opening the tailgate when the window is up. My problem is i don't see anything that the 4th point goes to? where does it hook to that keeps you from opening it?

any info would help

Re: rear window

I don't know about a '79 but on my '88 that 4th piece just hangs loose at the bottom of the tailgate. When the window goes down far enough it pushs that rod down which pulls and releases the latch.

Re: rear window

Ditto the 88 info for 1990 (my spring broke X-mas eve) The 4th rod is a saftry measure that locks athe relaese so kids cannot open the gate with the glass up. My assembly was very corroded and was not working until heat and WD40 loosened it all up. the safty rod actually catchs on the bottom of the glass as the glass rolls down simple but effective.
