painting hard top

Has anyone painted their hard top? I would like to paint mine black, but I think that you have to use special paint. Thanks.

Re: painting hard top

I recently had my hood, roof, and hardtop painted black. My 88 is all black and those areas were fading pretty bad. The paint shop used the same paint for both as far as I know. The paint on the top is holding up well, But it only has a year on it. I am in hot Houston, TX though, and a Summer here is like a summer in h... . Anyway, I keep it outside day and night. Good luck!

Re: painting hard top

Hi, I have an 89 351W FS Bronco and the top was pretty faded although the rest of the paint was still in good condition. Even though I live in NY I have no rust on my truck (knock on wood), I guess I'm lucky. I did have the top painted. My buddy owns a auto body shop and reccomended that I go with the same flat paint like the factory. Since I go off road a bit it made sense. If you go with a glossy finish the brances are sure to scuff up you cap.

Good Luck,
Bravoman
