I am about to buy a 1978 Bronco Ranger XLT. Beauty of a truck, rusty fenders, big tires and lots of balls.
It has a manual trans. 4 spd. (like they are) how can I tell if its the NP235 or T-14 and does it even matter.
Any opinions or known weaknesses on either would be humbly accepted.

Re: manual?

As far as I can recall the 14 wasn't installed in the 78's. They only got the NP435 4 speeds or the C6 auto's. The 435 are brutally strong with about a 6:1 granny gear. So unless someone changed it, you should have a NP435.
