I have a 1986 300-6 in my fs Bronco. I timed it the other day. It wouldn't advance at higher rpms. I recently replaced the old carb with a 4bbl, intake, and header. Would disconnecting the wires from the carb cause this? Someone told me to get a 83' distributor/setup. Would this use the vacuum advance?? Please help.
Get an 82-83 Duraspark ignition from the junk yard having a vacumn advance. What you primarily need is the wire
harness from the distributer to the module. The harness will give you all those fine ford type
connectors for each component. Take the distributer, coil and a module or two if they have them.

I replaced my EEC IV ignition on my 85 I6 with a Duraspark. It runs great. NO MORE SENSORS !
One thing though is the EGR valve won't operated any more. Maybe you can get an old temperature vacumn switch
like they used in the 70's. Let me know. I left mine dead and now I disco the speedo cable to stay under milage limit for emissions.
I got an 82 rebuilt distributer from PEP boys to start clean. You can get them from many parts stores.
I had to get the plastic base from the ford dealer though because I couldn't find a distributer in a yard.
I put on a MSD coil. But I ran for a year on the junk yard coil and I still use the junk module.
