Upper Intake Spacer

I saw a swap for 87-93 5.0 truck engines at a Ford Motorsport web site that was $630 and only said it was neccesary to swap so other mods would work. Is this swap really beneficial and is there a less expensive method to achieve mass air on an 89 5.0. Any info from those who know would be great. Laters.

I've not heard much about those spacers.

As for the mass air conversions, my understanding is that you don't really need it unless you're going to be changing major engine parts (or doing lots of performance work). By major parts I mean things like new heads, supercharger/turbo, higher rated injectors, new cam, etc... Or combinations of changes that would seriously change the nature of the engine (larger intake throttle body bigger injectors... etc).

From what I've heard the stock speed density system of the older engines just doesn't provide enough information to handle major performance tweeks, so the computer can't compensate. (Something about how the systems determine the amount of air going into the engine)

A cheaper way to upgrade might be to pull the mass-air system from a newer engine. You need enverything though... The mass-air sensor the whole computer and harness, maybe other stuff. Anyone know?
