Automatic Locking Hubs

I'm looking for the plastic cam assembly used in the front hubs of a 1988 Bronco II with the automatic locking front hubs. Ford dealers now sell this item as part of a $271/wheel repair kit. Needless to say, this is not an option. Can the truck be safely driven in 2 wheel drive with the old parts while waiting for new parts? Any suggestions on manual hubs? Since I live on the Gulf coast, corrosion resistance is a major concern. No I don't run on the beach but everyone and everything sweats here because of the moisture.

Thanks,
L

Re: Automatic Locking Hubs

junk the auto-locking hubs for some Warn Premium Hubs. Not the ones with the plastic knob, go for the stainless or chrome caps. I had auto-locking hubs and they sucked. There not as strong and would disengage without me wanting them to. With manual hubs you know when there locked or not. Also sometimes when you engage the auto-locking hubs during cold weather you get a loud clunk which can't be good for the tranny.

Re: Automatic Locking Hubs

I don't know much about Bronco_IIs hubs. On a full size you can get replacement hubs mailorder for $60 to $80. These are as good or better than the originals. Call to see if anyone has them for yours. Even manuals wear out, and I keep an extra new hub with me for off-roading.

Re: Automatic Locking Hubs

Well Lloyd I do agree with the most, get manual hubs. BUT if you want your autos I have at least 1 pair if not 2 pair of used hub sets.
Sell em REAL CHEAP. And if you want more I can get them (I am a tech at local Ford dealer). E-mail me [email protected]
