I just bought an 86 Bronco w/351, when i start the engine (doesn't matter if it's cold or hot) it idles at about 3000rpm. I usually let this go for about a minute until i'm able to kick it down to 1100. Is this high rev normal?
no that is not normal. It is normal, on a cold start, for the RPMs to to be a little high at first, but then it drops after about 1 min. 3000 is a very high idle. Unfortunately, i dont have the answer to your problem, but i know where it can be found. Log on to www.bronco.com and there you will find a late model bronco's mailing list. Here you can send posts (questions) and everyone on the mailinglist will receive them. there are many many knowledgeable people on this list. beware however, you will get lots of mail!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your high rpm can be caused by a couple of things. First someone may have messed with the screw that's attatched to the accelerator cable to raise the rpm's due to a bad air-bypass sensor. This is the first and maybe last sensor you may have to check. I had the same problem and that corrected it.
By the way you can no longer post at the old bulletin board.
