Re: bug to baja bug?
Start with a complete tear down of the vehicle including removing the body from the pan.. Basicaly take everything apart that can come apart.. A really good web site is http://www.dune-buggy.com/ and goto the buggytalk section for any questions you have.. Next is to get Baja Bugs and Buggies by Jeff Hibbard, Ron Sessions and How to Build a Dune Buggy by Earl Duty... That will answer most of your easy questions.. Next is to goto the races and take a camera along.. Take pics of anything you like or looks odd or new.. Get the rule book from your racing organazation and it will lay out some of the rules for all sorts of things including what class you want to run.. ASK QUESTIONS of the racers if they have time.. This sport is one where most everyone helps the fellow racer.. Side note on that; Last years SCORE Lauglin NV. race a buggy caught fire in front of the stands and the guy chasing him in the SAME class stopped. Both driver and co got out to pull the others out of the car while the rest of the field passed them.. There where plenty of ground crew around to do that but these guys have a brotherhood type pact.. I have also seen parts change hands just to get one guy on the starting line from a competitor.. This is one of the reasons I got caught up in this sport..
BTW make sure your not cutting up a classic bug pre 67.. Could make some people cry..
