ABS and Brake light.

1999 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 360 auto disk/drum.

My ABS and Brake light came on a few days ago, my brakes are in good shape, full fluid (Though a little old I guess) looked under it, nothing out of the ordinary and don't have a code reader at my disposal.

Question is what should I check for and/or reset the computer? I would rather not drop it to a dealer to charge me for reading codes. Any ideas? Thanks in advance...

Re: ABS and Brake light.

What about having a parts store read the codes?

Re: ABS and Brake light.

Ok Update. Switched out the RWAL sensor, light went off, I drove it a little to re-park it, still off. Drove it about 100 yards later and the light came back on. Every time I start it, the light is off. after 100 yards the light comes back on (Brake and ABS). Looking at it this AM, it seemed my speedo was not registering at first (0 mph) when it did, the light came on, very weird. BTW: Before replacing the sensor, the light would be on at startup, prior to even driving it. I did have the rear end rebuilt about a year ago, though everything was fine until about 6 mos ago.

Re: ABS and Brake light.

OK Figured it out. The new RWAL sensor was not all the way in the housing, take a rubber mallet and make sure it is. So far, so good.
