Dakota X-fer sift

Does anyone know anything about a 2000 to 2004 Dakota transfercase shift motor? When he hits the 4WD button it doesn't shift into 4HI or 4LO.Is there a manual shift kit out there?I couldn't find one.Maybe home manufacture one with adjustable detents?Would there be any isues with the computer if I eliminate the shift motor?
