97 2500 cummins pressure plate removal

im from the JEEP board, im trying to get some info for a buddy. the teeth on the pressure plate are worn to the point where the starter wont engage most of the time. i can build old jeeps but not sure about something this new. is this something we can do? he was told that the pressure plate and torque converter was one piece...is this true? any idea of $$$ for parts. thanks in advance

is this a manual or an auto / you can change either one but the auto is harder to do / the manual is just like changing one on a jeep
