Tires for 17\" wheels

Anybody got any good ideas on a tire selection for the 17" wheels that come on the 2002 1500?

Re: Tires for 17\" wheels

What do you mean? Biggest size that will fit or just a good tire?

Re: Tires for 17\" wheels

I would like to know what is the biggest tire I can fit on that wheel and still fit the wheel-wells, minimal rub. Should I maybe think about a different size wheel?

Re: Tires for 17\" wheels

The standard and safest bet is one size larger than the biggest stock tires. I dunno what they run now with the 17" rims.

I seriously doubt a 35" tall tire will fit. 33's rub on 2500's with the taller suspension.

It's WOULD.

Re: Tires for 17\" wheels

A lady down the street from me has a 2003 Ram 1500 4x4 that is running 35x12.50R17 Pro-Comp MT's on 17x9 aftermarket rims. I looked at it closely and I saw no evidence of either a suspension or body lift, but there is very little room around the front wheelwells. She has been driving it for several months now (obviously just on the street) and I will have to look if there is any contact marks on the fenders. I think the biggest 17" tire they offer on the new style 1500's is a 275/70R17 (same size as on my '01 1500 with the Off-Road package) but they also offer some pretty big 20" tires as an option. As for tire availability, Pro-Comp offers both a 33x12.50 and 35x12.50 tires for 17" rims. Based on the previously mentioned truck, the 33's would probably be okay for mostly street driving considering she is riding on a set of 35's. BFG makes a 285/70R17 in both the AT and MT models which should be about 1/2" taller and wider than the 275/70R17, and Goodyear offers some bigger sizes in the MT/R that I know of.

Re: Tires for 17\" wheels

I run the 33 inch pro comp's on my 01 Ram off road. My wheels are 17x8, not sure how wide the 03 17's are. Super swamper has a couple tires in 17 inch now. The 275/70 Goodyears were the biggest metric sizes I could find last year when I bought tires.

Re: Tires for 17\" wheels

I wouldnt be too surprised if 35's fit on a 4x4 Mayor, I think 33's would fit under my dad's 2wd Mayor, hell the tires it came with might be 33's, they look huge for a 2wd!

EDIT: Ok, i looked it up, and the stock tires are p275/70/17's, which is about a 33x10.5, so 33's should be no problem if you can do something about that gigantor front "bumper", and 35's look like a solid bet as well.

btw, what wheel pattern are they using now?

Re: Tires for 17\" wheels

33x12.50R17s; I reccommend ProComp ATs; they should fit without rubbing, but crank your torsion bars up an inch-&-a-half to level your truck out as well.

Re: Tires for 17\" wheels

I will be needing a set of tires for the new 03 2500 soon, it has the 17" wheel too or maybe i'll just use a set of my old 16.5 rims and tires...
