What cam for a 318?

hi again, I am going to order the rebuild kit for my 318, and am still shopping around for a cam. I will be using a 318 edel performer intake, with a edel 600cfm vac secondary carb, what jets & springs do you recommend for this? I am looking for economy, good milage, plus a will be towing a snowmobile trailer during the winter. I know there are different jets that come with the manual choke and the electric choke carb. This 318 will be used in a '83 Ram 1/2 ton with a 3 speed with OD, and 2.76 gears, 235 tires (so maybe an even smaller gear ratio there). So I need some low end power since I run at about 1,700 RPM at 55 mph. I was thinking some sort of RV cam, or '70-71 340 cam, any ideas, specs?? Thanks for any tips. -Jim Derrig

Re: What cam for a 318?

My recomendation would be the mopar perf cam packages, either the p4452755 with 240/248 dur and 405/410 lift or the p4452757 with 248/256 dur and 410/425 lift, both cams are good low end torque cams. With either one you should use a good valve spring. The muscle car replacement cam is p4120249 with 268/276 dur and 429/444 lift. It might be okay in a lighter car, but in a RC pulling a trailer you would be better off with one of the first two. Steve
