727 replacement?

is there an over-drive trans available to replace the 727 - that will hold up to a 440 and connect to a 203 or 205 t'case?
thanks for any suggestions. 3000 rpm at 65 is suckin WAY too much gas.

Re: 727 replacement?

the answer to your question is "yes", and maybe "no", depending on your determination to do this. If you email me at [email protected] I will tell you how to do this as best I can. Most of the guys here have already heard about this overdrive transplant a thousand times, and I'm sure they don't want it cluttering up the board again.

Re: 727 replacement?

I dont know if the newer od tranny's will bolt up. I think from 90 and beyond the trannys had od, but dont quote me on that.
If you decide to get rid of your big block 727 I would be intersted in it.

Re: 727 replacement?

Seems to me the newer OD tranny wouldn't hold up to the 440 and some big meats. I want to switch to an auto some day also, but will stick with a well built 727.
