73 stuff

I want to replace the cab on my 82 with a 73 to get around smug( I have a complete 440). I have found a complete 73. I want to put the cab on my chassis, along with all of my 82 sheet metal. I know the front clip will fit but what about the doors? The doors on my 82 have extra body line that matches my fenders. Just eye balling it looks like it will bolt on, but I'm not sure. Has anyone put later model doors on an early model cab? I have seen a 75 with 85 front clip but not the doors. I just found a 77 shorty with a 440 regisiter as a diesel. The truck itself is pretty rough but,it runs(tranny has a blown front seal/bushing so not driveable)with 35's for a grand. My problem is the smog cops. Here in california they are going to insall road side sniffers. I don't want waste my time and money to have big brother take it away. Any ideas? thank you. ijkj

Re: 73 stuff

They are different body styles. There is only a slight difference but there is enough. I went through this with my 74R/C body when I swapped it onto an 84 frame. I tried to use the 84 doors with the 74 body and nose the doors stuck out beyond the body. They fit and filled the hole opened and closed fine but the older body is a little flatter or thinner. There is also a crease in the newer door that the older one does not have. Good luck happy trails Joe
