87 R/C front right axleshaft seal

I own a 87 Ramcharger. My front right axleshaft oil seal has gone bad. I am familiar with the whole set up but I don't know if I can pull the seal from the side or if I have to access it through the differential case, (or both?). Do I need a special tool to remove it? Please help.

Re: 87 R/C front right axleshaft seal

When I have replaced mine I rigged up a piece of 1/2" tube with like a hook on the end and used it to pull it out the spindle side. They are not hard to pull out you just need something long enough to reach. I have also done it from the diff side. It is easier to get to if you pull the diff cover, pull the carrier and just pull it out and replace. Just be sure to put the same shims in the same side and the same caps that hold the carrier on there respective side. Pulling the carrier is no big deal as long as you put it back exactly the way it came out. ..........hope this helps.........-robo-
