Gas mileage on newer 1500 4x4?

Okay, I can't afford to insure a Ram 2500 and can't find a Toyota Tacoma TRD 4x4, so I guess it's on to choice 3:

A Ram 1500 4x4.

What would said truck with a 360 and the auto OD tranny get for gas mileage?

Ditto for a 318/5 speed combo?

Eeeh, well, no worse than my 92 Blazer with a 350 was getting. Gonna be a big change from the 20+ mpg the Tracker gets.

Re: Gas mileage on newer 1500 4x4?

Yes, I miss the good gas mileage too, my old 86 red corvette got very good mileage and the 96 intrepid es I have gets about 20 too, my 95 ram has a 35 gallon tank and only gets around 250 miles per tank and the usual refill is about 30 gallons. 8 mpg with the 5.9 and 5:13's with 38's and the speedometer is exactly correct with the tire and gear combo!!! I hear the hemi might be a little better fuel wise than the 5.9.

AMJ, Mine was a 2000 single cab short bed 4x4 with the lil ol 318 and an auto tranny. I had headers, gibson exhaust, 3" skyjacker 2 lift and procomp 305 muds. I forget what gears were in it. I got about 10-12 in the city and clost to 15 on the highway.

AJM.........AJM.............AJM...........

Man, I like the looks of that truck. I know I could use an extended cab, but I just like the looks of a shortbed single cab Ram soooo much.

I'd definately regear for anything over the stock 245/265's. I think standard gears for Dodge 1500's are 3.50 something. 10mpg would suck.........

I know the 2500/3500 has the option for either 3:54 or 4:10, not sure if its the same for the 1500's...

Re: Gas mileage on newer 1500 4x4?

I'm used to it, it's cool. AJN, JAM, AMJ, AMC, blah blah blah.......

K&N help any? Just a drop in helped on my 92 Blazer with a 350. Noticeable gain in gas mileage and did actually get some "seat of the pants" gains. Maybe I'm just weird since so many other people say they are a waste of money, but they worked for me. Probably fab up some air intake setup too, not paying $300 for some tubing and a cone K&N filter.

Hey, did your truck have one or two catalytic convertors? My coworker's 94 1500 with a 360 has one, but the engines changed in the late 90's I beleive.
