Dodge power trouble

First off i bought my truck used last year. I have a dodge 4x4 1500 laramie slt long bed w/ the 5.9 litre.
Anyway it seems to be losing power when i first got it it was full of pep now there is very little.I cant use the cruise control on hill because it redlines damn near every hill. It acts like a loss of power...engine light did come on but went back off... what do yall think it might be..
Is this a common problem?

Re: Dodge power trouble

could be many things. clogged cat, need for a tune up, bad computer, slipping tranny. you need to check the plugs and see what color they are. also check the timing and see if its correct. need to do a code scan on it and see if theres anything wrong with it.

Re: Dodge power trouble

How many miles on it? A definate full tune up sounds good and if you go off roading alot be sure that the air filter is clean or you will lose power since its struggling for air.

Re: Dodge power trouble

what i did to get my H.P. out of my 95 5.9 i bought a K&N Filter. It actually help with more H.P. and it has a better throttle response. the filter cast about $70.00 but it is worth it.
