Re: Dodge Transmissions

Actually it's pretty much every year Dodge OD transmission. They're just as famous around here as the GM TH700R4 for spitting it's guts out. Best step towards keeping it living would be putting on the biggest trans cooler you can find. If it ever pukes on you, don't just have it rebuilt, have it upgraded as well.

I'm not bashing Dodge or MOPAR, my next truck is going to be a Dodge Ram 2500 (with a stick), it just seems that all the Big 3's truck OD auto transmissions have "issues". Start towing, lifting and running big tires, offroading, in general just using it hard, and your transmission is eventually gonna choke. Ford, GMC, Dodge, or Chevy.

Re: Dodge Transmissions

One of the problems for tranny falure isn't tranny related believe it or not, its the check ball in the tranny cooler line next to the radiator. The other is not dodges fault but the owners fault, its in writing that the od needs to be off when towing or it causes the od to break down and send debris thru the whole tranny and destroy it. There was one tsb that i'm aware of that the fan needed to be upgraded to a newer type to help keep all cool. A definate would be installing a tranny cooler if you do lots of muddin and/or towing...

I'm with you. My next truck is going to be a Dodge 2500 with a manual trans. I'm hoping this will be an option with the hemi. Does anybody know?

Re: Dodge Transmissions

The NV5600 is usually mated to the 24 valve CTD-High Output. Its NV4500 for everything else.
