axle codes

so my g/f decided to buy a dodge....
Well, i know more about chevy than i do dodge, and ive never owned a chevy! Basically all i would like to do is figure out the axle ratios, but i dont know how to read their tags. The sticker on the door jam doesnt tell me what they are, but i do have the VIN#, if ayone has or knows of a vin decoder for it.

...by the way, its a 99 1500 ram ext. cab
Thanks!

Re: axle codes

If it's 4x4 it should have a Dana 44 front and a Chrysler 9.25" rear axle. 2wd just subtract the front.

Common ratios seem to be 3.55 and 3.92, at least as far as I've seen. Try asking on <a target="_blank" href=http://www.RamChargerCentral.com>www.RamChargerCentral.co m</a>'s Tech board.

Re: axle codes

axles are right, and its a solid D44, which is even better. If those are the only ratios they had, then its definitely 3.55.
Im gonna check that other site now. Thanks!

Re: axle codes

The easiest way is to take the vin number to the dodge dealer and have them print up the options the truck came with, it tells you everything including the gear ratio and axles etc...Its free too!
