rear gear oil

Hello Everyone,
Has anyone used synthetic gear oil in his or her limited slip unit? Do I have to add friction modifier?
Thanks
Joe

Re: rear gear oil

I have a 2001 Ram QC 4x4 w/Posi on both axles because of a severe binding problem I am reploacing my Diff fluid here within the next few days with Royal Purple Fully Synthetic Gear Oil 75w90. It has Diff additive in it already but I am also adding the GM Diff Additive into the mix to hopefully clear up all of my issues with her Front axle. The rear is receiving the same treatment. I will let you know how this works out for me in a few days.

Re: rear gear oil

Well the fuilds have been added and I have noticed a little bit smoother ride and a little better gas mileage. Also with all of the fluids that I swapped(fresh syn oil, new syn tranny fluid and diff oil) she seems a little quicker also. I was running Mobil 1 syn before but I tried the Royal Purple this time as well I haven't noticed and diference in the egine from one syn to another syn. Hope that this helps. I did add a bottle of the GM Posi Additive to both diffs. The transfer case fluid comes later this week.
