I have a couple questions about a trans I found at the wercking yard. I found a 1984 dodge pickup with a 4spd behind a slant 6. It looks like a heavy duty unit but I don't know how to id a manual trans. Will it have a id plate on it{i didn't look for one the first time} or will it have cast in id on the side?
The only one i've heard about is the np435.
Will it bolt to a small block?
What kind of gear ratios does it have?
Thanks for all the info. Mike

The NP435 has an aluminum cover on it.It should have the New Process logo on it just to the rear of the stick mounting. I think it is an N and a P inside a gear(the logo).
You will need to get the SB bellhousing for it to go up against a SB.

They came in two first gear ratios in dodges. The wide ratio has a 6.68 to 1 first gear. The first gear itself will have 17 teeth. You obviously have to remove the cover to find that out. The other is the close ratio and has a 4.56 to 1 ratio I think.
