Start problem 79 Dodge Ram

I have a 79 Dodge Ram with a 318 with a dual battery setup. I use the truck strictly for plowing my drive in the country. At times it will turn over good with the starter but will not start, it does not get any spark. If I put my heavy duty battery charger on it, or use my battery port-a-pack it starts right up. Seems like if it turns over good there should be enought juice to fire the plugs. Anyone else have or had this probelm. Am I over looking something, or is this just the nature of the beast.

HOWDY / it sounds like your DIST pick-up is either go,in bad or its rusty or the gap is to large / rust will weakin the signal- same with a large gap / check to make sure that you have coil power when it dont start / a weak coil will do the same thing / if you need the wiring diagram for the electronic ignition let me know / hope this helps and MOPAR TO YA /////////////////// WED

Re: Start problem 79 Dodge Ram

Not sure if my Haynes manual has the diagram for the distributor, so if it wouldn't be too much trouble for you to e:mail me the diagram I would appreciate. What seems odd is that it seems to turn over fine. The minute I put my battery charger with boost start on it, it fires right up.

HOWDY / this is a long shot but the main computer power for the truck is on the battier post / maybe it has a bad connection and when you put the booster on it - it gets a better connection / just something to check / I,ll get that diagram to you this weekend / later and MOPAR TO YA //////////////// DEANO
