Changing dif fluid, as easy as it looks?

Is changing the differential oil as easy as it appears to be? A couple of months ago we had the axle end U-joints replaced my 2500, and our mechanic said the fluid that came out looked like it was due for a change. (I'm only scrapping up the money now, monthly payments are a %&#*^). Anyhow is it as simple as loosen bottom bolts to drain(or does it have a drain plug?), take cover off, put new gasket on, then add oil. Is it really that simple? Would it only take one bottle of gear lube?

And if you have a limited slip gear then you need an 8 oz friction modifier additive per axle $6.00 each. Very easy but the hardest part at times is popping off the diff cover if its stuck real good.
