Re: anyone ever..........?
I bought an 1984 CR 500 about 3 months ago. That's the last year they were air-cooled. I'm told, though I don't know if this person is correct, that the 1984's had so much power that they backed off after that. Yeah, I know it's a dinosaur, but it sure is a hoot to ride! I actually bought steel shank boots just to start the thing because the arch of my foot was getting so bruised. I must say, now that I have gotten the hang of it, I can start it on the first kick just about every time, but that's only after it has been warmed up. I'm not a motocross guy, but I do ride a lot of woods stuff up here in Michigan. This bike is perfect for this kinda riding. It has bottom end torque like a 4-stroke, but will put you on your butt coming out of corners in third gear!
Let me say this though, if you weigh less than 150 pounds and have pencil thin legs, don't even bother trying to kick one over. Also, forget trying to push start one unless you are on blacktop in 5th gear...there's just too much compression on top of that big piston.
Thanks of letting me chime in!
