im gonna need more power soon.

all my friends are selling their 80's for 125's and i can just keep up with them speed wise in the open sand pit. im now on a 1990 xr200 and i want to stay with a 4 stroke not a yzf but like an xr maybe a 400? would that be a reasonable upgrade? i can kick a 200 no prolem would i be able to kick a 400? thanks

XR400's are very heavy...more power, but still the on-offroad big slow 4 stroke...why do you want to stick to a 4 stroke??

aahh, i c, a very good explenation. You still have the 80 right? what year is that? you can prob get 1200 out of the 200, if it is in good running and looking condition.

woops, forgot to finish. I'd say, if you really want to, sell both of the bikes and see how much you could have ALL together, if you aren't ridin a lot of woods, where your not gonne by sideways on hills or goin over logs and stuff, try out the 400 like you said, in the sand pit it would be fine, just can't get tons of air, a lot more than your 200, but not as much as them mx bikes are gettin.

Re: im gonna need more power soon.

If you want a light weight powerfull 4 stroke than go for the YZ 250F.
It has the 4 stroke power and is the same weight as a 250 2 stroke.
An XR 400 is a pig and is probly not much faster if at all than a 250F.
Good luck.

Re: im gonna need a hummer soon.

I think XR400's are cool. I don't get all this anti-4 stroke sentiment around here. Some people like the smooth even power delivery of a 4 stroke. Some people like the low end torque of a 4 stroke. Sure 2 strokes have a power hit that feels neat, but it also feels neat to chug up a long greasy hill that most guys on their 125s can't make. I have a YZ125 and an XR250, they both have their pros and cons.
