re-covering seat

My husband wants me to re-cover the seat on his dirtbike, the old one was falling apart, the foam coming out and everything, so he went to a bike recycler, and found a seat in better condition, but after only a day of riding it's cracked too, since I don't want to replace the whole darn seat again next season, i plan on just replacing the fabric on the new one, before it gets bad. But I don't know if I should go with pleather ($5/yard) which I realise will probably crack again in a few years, or if I should go with a marine vinyl, the only problem is it's 3X the cost (minimum), and we're on a bit of a tight budget. DH wants to go even more expensive and get snowmobile vinyl.

what would you reccomend we use?
