Reving wierd

My 1981 Honda XL100 Is far from stock. There are parts of virtually anything you can think of. Anyway, she works real good now, except for one problem. When I start the bike, It rev's real high, like almost half way. As soon as it gets warmed up, she idles normal. Anyone know what the problm could be? Maybe an adjustment on the carburetor? (like air screw) Also, I'm going to rebuild my front forks (try to anyway) and I was wondering how to do it. Does anyone know a site that could help me a long, or could anyone do that themselves? thanx

Thanks,
Evan. XL100

Re: Reving wierd

It sounds like you might have an air leak in your intake. It could be a gap or a crack that closes as it warms up. A good way to check is to spray WD40 all around both sides of the intake while it is revving high. If the revs drop for a second or two, you found your leak.
