kx500

hello, i am new to this site and was looking for someone who knows kx500's real weel. i have some technical questions. one is this. i have an 86 and am looking to run lights. from what i have understood, 86-89 stators wont accept the lighting coil you can buy. what i was wanting to know is : 1, i can use a stator off of a 90 or newer year, and if i do this will i have to get the cdi from that year as well?? any help would be greatly appreciated. also let me know if you know this motor well cause i have other q's. thanks

I'd call Baja designs or E-line about that..........

Why do you want lights??

Have you thought about a good mountain bike light??

well this is the wrong forum to discuss it but i thought i might get answers here since you guys know these engines. i have put the motor in a tecate 3 frame and want to be able to run it at night.

No it's never the wrong form, we love all dirt machines no matter how many wheels..........

Hey how'd the kick starter clear?

the kick starter clears perfectly. the motor is an almost 100% bolt on. the swingarm pivot and bottom mount are an exact match. i had to make new mounting plates for the top, and notch an area in the frame for the spark plug clearance. the pipe stinger had to be slightly bent and lengthened but other than that it fits real well.
