average price for/alternatives to KLR650?

I'm kicking around the idea of getting an enduro-style bike that I can take hiking/camping/climbing etc. on forest service type roads. I probably won't be doing a whole lot of off-roading, but it's a possibility. The other thing I'd like in a bike is the ability to keep up on the road. I've heard the KLR650 is a popular adventure-type enduro, and was wondering what price one could expect to pay for a decent, reliable one, used is fine.
I've got to say it, though, I am a fan of honda motorcycles. Does Honda make something similar to the KLR650 (size wise) or am I stuck with a Kawi?
Additionally, how's the aftermarket for enduro-style bikes? Specifically I'd like to get an expanded gas tank and some slightly more attractive body work. On that note, can you remove the bodywork altogether without messing up the bike in some way?

Sorry, there are a lot of questions here. Thanks in advance for your advice!

Re: average price for/alternatives to KLR650?

Honda does make a XR 650L that I think might weigh less although it is air cooled.

Also, Suzuki's DR650S is comparable, and the DRZ400E is even better--despite the difference in displacement, it is more powerful and has better suspension. It is more dirt than street oriented though.

One more possibility . . . the KTMs, due to being European, can be licensed for the street in some states. Even the two-strokes. Now that is not everywhere but here in WA I know you can. They have several extremely high performance, water cooled, electric start four strokes as well as big bore two strokes that are already tricked out with lights, big tanks, and all the goodies to have fun off road.

As for aftermarket, these would be dual-purpose rather than enduro-style bikes, and there isn't a whole lot. There is very little by way of graphics etc. Baja Designs is one place I can think of that does dual sport stuff, I am sure there is more but I am drawing a blank right now.

If you were going to truly go off-road, I would urge a new style four-stroke or even a MX two-stroke with the proper aftermarket items, but you can't get them street legal in most places.
